Downtime Rescheduled, Shorter
We announced on Friday that we were going to be doing some maintenance on Twitter all day today. It turns out we were able to do most of the work without taking Twitter offline. It may have been better referred to as a "maintenance window" but we wanted to make sure you were aware just the same.
However, to make the final move to our new data center we will definitely need take Twitter offline for about four hours while we copy the database over. So, please take note of the newly scheduled down-time for Twitter: 10PM—2AM PST starting Sunday evening. Thanks!

Update (12/17 3a): We're slowly bringing services back up. You'll probably see some slowness for a while. We hope to be back up to speed before your finish your bagel and coffee, NYC.
Update (12/17 5a): We're still working on fixing some issues causing massive slowness site-wide. We're on it.
Update (12/17 6a): We're waiting on a fix to our network switch which we've determined is causing the slowness we're seeing. More soon.

Please use exact date and time when you notify schedule issue. "Sunday" is not usefuel for people in other countries than U.S.
My suggestion is to use a site like 'time and date.com'.

@ mshk: They stated Sunday from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. PST. PST stands for Pacific Standard Time, if I'm not mistaken. Either way, the time is still pinpointed. Other time zones just have to adjust the time in relation to figure out their local time for when the maintenance will take place.
By the updated comment I'm presuming you mean twitter will be back about 3am PST. So about 1 hour from now.

It's ok @mshk we're used to having to do timezone translations.
It's starting to come back up now - a few errors, CSS, missing images - mainly slow as a Volvo at the moment but I don't care ... I'm using it! Yay!
Will this maintenance remove the bloody "is twittering:" from the facebook app? I do hope so.

I think a nice alternative dashboard / widget on via FB would be a good thing..

To the anon who complained about the timing hitting EU - the first downtime on Saturday was planned to suit you better, starting at 9pm GMT. so all the US were complaining about the time! Now with the re-arranged one, it's another part of the world. Can't win at all with a global site
I wonder if people are ringing or emailing others randomly with snack sized updates on what they are doing... hehehe!

didn't realize how much I depended on twitter. Especially when buried in 2 feet of snow from a "monster nor-eastern storm". I may actually have to go shovel now ARGHH!!
