The Case of the Missing Updates
We know about and are currently investigating an issue some people are having regarding updates not getting delivered consistently.
Our big infrastructure move recently has done wonders with respect to maintaining a reliable service during shared events like the Super Bowl and Super Tuesday. However, we are still fixing bugs related to the move.
We're tracking the missing updates issue now as a team and we've made some progress. The updates are in our database so they're not actually missing—the problem is in the delivery. Our support team can manually clear individual timeline caches to temporarily reveal some of the 'missing' updates but that's obviously not a real fix.
We're getting closer to the answer. To the people who are experiencing this issue, thank you for writing in to support and Satisfaction. We are aware of it and will keep you posted.

Love your work!
*patiently waits for the fix*
For what it's worth, it's not just “delivery”, though it may be that in technical terms.
If I look at my own “with friends” page, I only see half of the people I'm following's updates—I have to go to their pages to see all of their updates. I'm getting situations where somebody I'm following asks a question, and then posts up the answer later on, and all I see the answer—very disconcerting!
Mo: Sorry for the confusion. In this case the term "delivery" includes display on your timeline.
@Mo: Right. The problem effected people's page caches as well.
Glad to hear you're on it, Twitter.
I don't get any updates or direct messages anymore. I have spend so much money already activating again my phone sooo many times. I feel very disappointed about twitter :_(
We are noticing that "replies to replies" are the ones not getting trough
If I look at those that I am following, I seem to be seeing only half of their tweets. Almost seems like every other one doesn't update. I have to go to their page to see them, just like Mo says. And it's not my cache. I never use the website, either iPhone or Air apps.
I also don't seem to get replies.
I thought this was fixed?
alrite. so this is just extended 'quiet time' with 'oh, but you can keep posting' ;)
