Highlights from Superbowl Sunday

Click image to see bigger graph
As expected, Super Bowl Sunday was an active day on Twitter. We thought we'd share some info about the day. This graph shows the percentage of updates per minute during the big game normalized to the average number of updates per minute during the rest of the day.

The blue line represents updates during the Super Bowl and the green line represents updates during the same time the Sunday before. The updates per minute are smoothed to 5 minute rolling averages and we've annotated the spikes so you can see what people were Twittering about. It's fun to see the real-time nature of Twitter updates during the shared event.

You can count me in on that... I was definitely one of the active Twitterers. What a game! I enjoyed getting Twitters from friends. Once again Twitter showed how dynamic an application it is.

Funny how it drops while Tom Petty was playing.

What does it matter if people's tweets don't make it to you?

I've seen it happen and others have too...

I think I tweet'd about 4 times when Eli evaded the sack and completed the pass. Then I looked twitter page and saw everyone use the same word. WOW

Although I don't follow American Football, the Superbowl aired here in the UK on the BBC, so I thought it would be interesting it 'track superbowl'. Of course my Jabber client was bombarded with all sorts of messages but as I watched for a while it was interesting: it was close to the call of the game and most people commented on similar things, but the highlight for me were all the random comments like "At home, completely avoiding the Superbowl." or "Stuck at work. Can't believe I don't get to watch the Superbowl."
