Twitter for Japan
We're live in Japan!
We’ve noticed a significant percent of Twitter usage consistently originating from Japan despite the fact that our service is in English. This highlighted an opportunity for us to make Twitter better so we worked with our partner, Digital Garage to launch a Japanese version of Twitter. Starting today, the increasing number of folks accessing our service from Japan will have a better experience. Special thanks to Jason Goldman, Britt Selvitelle, Yuu Takakaki, Hiroki Eda, and the rest of the team who helped build Twitter Japan.

The partnership agreement we have with Digital Garage also includes some commercial experimentation in the Japanese market through it’s subsidiary, CGM Marketing, Inc. At launch, visitors to Twitter.jp will see media from two clients. One is a new book about Twitter being released in Japan, another is an automotive news service built on Twitter and sponsored by Toyota.

i hope you qa'd this one. u guys are getting a bad rep for pushing code live to soon.
Congrats guys!
That explains why I had Twitter display in Japanese a couple times (for just a minute). No problem, it was just weird!
Hopefully this will let users filter out all the moon speak twitters from the main page, it's almost all moon-age now.
Until now i dont undestand nothing in twiter but i will go try again heheheh : )
If my friends start using the Japanese version of twitter, will we who use the English version still get to see their updates?
I can read Japanese and had no problem tracking down the 設定 area to switch back to English, but you should have some sort of instructions (in English) for people who won't be able to figure out how to make that change so easily.
Any chance to translate twitter into other languages?
Hello, I'm Japanese user. Thank you for your hard work and perseverance.
I wanna keep using English interface so I changed language and get English . But quit/restart browser, they return Japanese..
I'm sorry but please modify cookie settings.
can you delete the ugly ad in japansese version? if you want to keep the ad, do the same thing to english twitter page. this is not fair.
Really great site. Keep it on
For those users with Japanese browsers who want to see the site in English, there is a setting under the Account tab to have your interface always be in the language of your choice.
Let me know if that doesn't work for you.
oh, sorry Jason.I shouldn't post that.. I just sent message at form http://twitter.com/help/.
So, how to SMS from keitai? (Japanese mobile) They don't seem to like SMS to a number not on their network, let alone an international number.
I wrote about it here-

gr8 news guys!!!!!!!!!!!
Does this mean that we will be able (soon?) to twitter from keitai to a japanese phone number? and not to a +44 number?
(I did not see it yet in the devices settings in japanese version.)
I'm not sure I see the point of having just a language portal for the Japanese since the significant portion of Japanese users seem to be just fine with the English portal. More importantly, is this going to be SMS? Most Japanese (if not all), as you well know living here in Japan, use email and NOT SMS. Finally, why, oh why, despite my Japanese skills, must I be saddled with a Japanese interface everytime I login? Yes, I have changed it, but the changes never seem to stick. I am constantly having to change my settings and this is annoying. In my book, you haven't created anything that was really needed. Waste of time and money.
I hope this doesn't mean that Japanese speaking users will not be appearing in English Twitter anymore. One of my main draws to Twitter was the fact that people from all over the world were posting comments in the same place. Twitter would suck if all the people were segregated. I'm hoping this update is simply talking about the addition of being able to put Twitter into Japanese as well, but that much was really not made clear from the post.
にほんご wa taihen ii desu! I like it either way--either with Japanese symbols or otherwise--glad to see this improvement. www.squidoo.com/narita or www.squidoo.com/niseko
--I'd love to put these two sites in にほんご but my computer would probably crash if I tried it. Thanks again for the new site!
