I've been playing around with this only to find that twitter is way to unreliable to use as a home automation platform.

Instead I used misterhouse from MisterHouse.com and now control my lights via Gtalk, AOL and IRC.

I found that to be a much more stable messenger platform than Twitter.

Of course, you can still output log data to your Home's twitter account but it's not a badly needed feature if you already run the house on Gtalk and AOL IM.

Anyways, cool to see I'm not the only one playing around with this.

Very cool... But you have to have your computer 24/7 switched on to do that anytime.

Cool...
BTW I wrote something a few days ago to hook up a webcam in such a way that it alerts you through twitter if someone breaks into your house (or messes with ur room in ur absence). SO, there u go, cheap DIY home security with real time/anywhere updates

Twitter is just so cool for such hacks.

I think you messed up on this - you send a text message that turned twitter off, not your lights.
