Flock: Bringing Fabric to a city near you

Since we unveiled Fabric at our first mobile developer conference, many of you have started using the Kits to address some of the most common challenges facing app developers: stability, distribution, revenue and identity.  We hope to meet many more of you over the coming months, so we’re hitting the road on a worldwide tour we’re calling Flock. We believe the next great app can come from anywhere so we are going everywhere we can to help you learn how to use Fabric to build great apps.

As we continue to grow internationally, Digits is extremely helpful. Many of our customers outside the US especially, prefer to verify their accounts via phone rather than email, so Digits is the easiest solution for them and us.

In addition to event planning we’ve made several updates to the Fabric Kits since launch. We upgraded our Beta distribution tool with share links and crash-to-tester identification, added a new self-service app installs tracking feature, launched theming support for Digits, and in the MoPub Kit we shipped support for MRAID 2.0 and specification to enable rich media ads in banners and interstitial ad units.

Let’s get into the event details: the first phase of Flock is a road trip across the United States. Our team of Developer Advocates is piling into a Fabric bus to visit cities from Los Angeles to Detroit, to host Fabric meetups and seminars. The second phase of Flock is a series of half-day events in cities around the world. This will be a great opportunity for you to meet our team of Fabric engineers and Developer Advocates. Click on a city to learn more about the agenda and to apply to attend. We’ll be publishing dates and venues for more cities over the coming months.

Finally, today we are announcing Hatch, our first worldwide startup contest. Think you’re going to launch the next great app? We want to hear about it. The winning app gets meetings with Twitter executives and opportunities to meet with potential investors in addition to some cash to fund their project. Check out the eligibility requirements on the Hatch website and be sure to sign up for a Flock event city near you so that you can meet with our Developer Advocates and Engineers and make the best out of your entry. The 10 finalists for Hatch will fly to San Francisco to present their startup ideas at the first annual Hatch Gala in July (details and ticket information coming soon).
