Tweets were flying through the Twittersphere last week as all 32 NFL teams competed in Week 1 of the 2012 season.  Fans flocked to Twitter to show support for their teams in what proved to be a week full of surprises, upsets and even some NFL records.

Each week we’ll track the top tweeted-about games in the NFL and bring them to you. During week 1 alone, there were more than 2 million tweets about the NFL!

In week 1, the most talked about games were:

  1. @dallascowboys vs. @giants
  2. @steelers vs. @denver_broncos
  3. @packers vs. @49ers

Additional NFL-on-Twitter highlights from Week 1 include:

Rookie quarterback @RGIII’s two touchdowns, which lead the @redskins to a 40-32 win over the @saints.

San Francisco kicker @DavidAkers2 tied an NFL record with a 63-yard field goal, during the @49ers first victory over the @packers at Lambeau Field for the first time since 1990.

Despite WR @Reggie_Wayne87’s nine receptions, the @ChicagoBears came out on top, beating the @nflcolts 41-21

While they couldn’t cross the goal line in the preseason, the @nyjets changed that quickly in the regular season with a 48-28 victory over the @buffalobills

In his return, Peyton lead the @denver_bronco’s to a 31-19 victory over the @steelers. Four-time MVP Manning completed 19 of 26 passes, totaling 253 yards with two touchdowns.
