Olympics bring out Tweets from athletes, music stars, more

The Olympics are one of a handful of global events that creates a significant discussion worldwide. Celebrities — even those not involved in the Olympics — joined the conversation on Twitter.

For instance, @kobebryant sent a congratulatory Tweet to gold medalist snowboarders Sage Kotsenburg (@sagekotsenburg) and Jamie Anderson (@Jme_Anderson).

Kotsenburg also received a Tweet from @Metallica.

After American bobsledder Johnny Quinn (@JohnnyQuinnUSA) achieved fame for breaking open his Sochi bathroom door and tweeting a picture of it, @WilliamShatner replied to the Tweet and the two had a short exchange:

U.S. figure skater @GraceEGold was gushing with excitement after @taylorswift13 tweeted at her.

Gus Kenworthy (@guskenworthy), the silver medalist in men’s slopestyle skiing, got some puppy love from @MileyCyrus.

@michaelbuble heard a familiar tune while watching @MaiaShibutani and @AlexShibutani figure skating. He tweeted at the brother-sister duo, and they both responded excitedly to the singer.

Tennis star @andy_murray tweeted his commentary and reaction to Jenny Jones (@jennyjonessnow) becoming Great Britain’s first ever medalist on snow.

@katiecouric tweeted about how nervous she was just watching figure skating.

Countless non-Olympic athletes and teams were tweeting as #TeamUSA took on Canada in the men’s hockey semifinal on Friday. Tweets came from @Rangers pitcher Derek Holland (@Dutch_Oven45), Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon (@WMoon1) and the @RedSox, who shared a photo of catcher/first baseman Mike Napoli (@MikeNapoli25) on the couch watching the game.

Not to be outdone, Lil Wayne (@LilTunechi) and @Drake placed a wager on the game over Twitter.
