The Billboard Trending 140: Sept. 29-Oct. 6

Tuesday, 21 October 2014

@5SOS took the #1 overall spot on the Popular charts this week for “Good Girls Are Bad Girls” after premiering the song’s new video on Oct. 10. The video now has over 3.7 million views and counting.

The Popular debuts chart is dominated by two up-and-coming artists. @BobbyShmurdaGS9, who recently graduated from the Emerging chart, is at #1 with “Bobby Bitch.” @MODSUN, a newly signed @RostrumRecords artist, comes in at #2 with “1970.” On the same day that @MODSUN debuted the song and accompanying video, he also ran a flash sale campaign, offering four distinct products throughout the day with limited quantities. He utilized Twitter’s “Buy” button functionality to facilitate it.

@TaylorSwift13 had two songs on the Popular overall charts with her smash hit “Shake It Off” at #4, and her cover of @VanceJoy’s “Riptide” at #6.

Coming in at #4 on this week’s Popular debuts is @JimmyFallon’s “EW!” featuring the one and only @iamwill.

Emerging artists shine
After only one week out of the top three on the Emerging overall charts (at #4 last week), @Kiesza is back at #3 with her song “Hideaway.” Leading into her album release on Oct. 21, @Kiesza began to share new content on @Spotify and song previews on @iTunes. With all of this content getting out there, check the charts to see which of her tracks may rise next week!

“Single,” the new song from @TheNightRunners, reached #1 on the Emerging overall charts this week.

@runjewels, the hip-hop duo formed by @therealelp and @KillerMikeGTO last year, has the #1 track on the Emerging debut charts with “Close Your Eyes,” featuring @Zackdelarocha of Rage Against the Machine.

Music videos matter
The top two tracks on the Popular overall charts were both accompanied by video premieres this past week. We already mentioned the first video earlier – @5SOS’s “Good Girls Are Bad Girls.” @EdSheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud,” the #2 track this week, also premiered his new video. It has amassed over 10 million views since Oct. 7, and it continues to climb!
