Twitter Amplify launches in India with Star Sports, Vodafone, Team India Cricket

Thursday, 7 August 2014

It’s no secret that people turn to Twitter to connect with stars and fans alike while they are watching TV programs. Today we’re pleased to tell you that Twitter Amplify, which links TV and Twitter more closely than ever, is now here in India — first with Star Sports (@StarSportsIndia) and Vodafone India (@VodafoneIN).

To tap into the growing social TV conversation, Twitter is working with media partner Star Sports and advertiser Vodafone India to present Twitter Amplify in India for the Indian cricket team’s (@BCCI) tour of England.

Thanks to this partnership, Twitter users will receive spectacular and timely updates that round out their TV experience and remind them to tune in to the live cricket action and key sporting moments.

The Twitter Amplify program lets broadcasters publish the best content directly to Twitter, and then monetise that content with advertisers through sponsorship packages. Powered by Promoted Tweets, the program will “amplify” the reach of the video content distributed through the broadcasters’ or sponsors’ Twitter accounts.

For advertisers, Twitter Amplify extends the reach of TV sponsorships into mobile and social areas, letting them tap into the social conversation on Twitter. It also provides a multi-platform strategy essential to satisfying users’ needs to consume content whenever or wherever they want it.

It has been a landmark year for Twitter as the service has become the social soundtrack for television, with 95% of the public social conversation around TV happening on Twitter, especially during live sporting events. Broadcasters and businesses know Twitter is a natural TV companion that drives viewer tune-in, engagement and affinity. During the recent @IPL season, we saw some great examples of this where TV audiences were simultaneously watching a match broadcast and sharing the live cricket action on Twitter.

We hope you enjoy watching cricket highlight videos in real time on Twitter this season.
