Twitter heads to #OSCON 2015

Friday, 17 July 2015

Twitter’s Developer Relations (@TwitterDev) and Open Source (@TwitterOSS) teams are counting down the days until we head to Portland. Here’s a quick rundown of where we’ll be throughout the week so you can come join us at #OSCON.

Tuesday, July 21: Visit our booth

Twitter’s booth number is 726 and you’ll find us adjacent to the community lounge. Stop by anytime during the week and you just might get an invite to enjoy a frosty beverage on us or a few other surprises. You can also chat with the team about your open source projects and any questions or ideas you have around @TwitterOSS and @TwitterDev.

Wednesday, July 22: Scala chat and Twitter ping pong party

You won’t want to miss our open source advocate Travis Brown talking about Scala at Scale at Twitter. We’ll also be participating in a panel with other companies.

Additionally, we’re hosting our annual party at Pips and Bounce — Portland’s ping pong playground. There may or may not be professional ping pong champs there to share some tips, along with food, drinks and tournaments. Register today.

Thursday, July 23: Open source at Twitter

On Thursday, I’ll present ”Creating an open source office: Lessons from Twitter” and discuss why we started an open source office and how we established our culture within the company. I’ll share lessons learned and challenges faced, as well as why we open sourced certain projects and not others. If you’re interested in starting an open source office within your organization, this talk is definitely for you!

The team is also hosting office hours open to anyone at Cup and Bar coffee shop. Stop by from 4-6 p.m. PT to grab a coffee and talk open source with the @TwitterDev and @TwitterOSS teams.

For recent open source news at Twitter, check out the open source tag across our blogs, along with our @TwitterOSS and @TwitterDev accounts. Recently, we graduated Apache Parquet, open sourced Twitter Kit and Digits Kit for Android and started to incubate Mysos.

We look forward to seeing you at #OSCON 2015.
