Vote with your Tweet: find your election day polling booth and snag on Twitter

Tuesday, 21 June 2016

As the 2016 Federal Election campaign enters the home stretch, thoughts inevitably turn to the one choice that divides the electorate and often households: sausage sizzle or cake stall?

This year @TwitterAU, in partnership with our friends at @proxima_io, are taking the guesswork out of where to vote and which polling stations have your favourite election day treats.

Step one is working out where to vote: simply send a Tweet and include the #AusVotes hashtag to @AusPolling asking where your nearest polling station is, like so:

You’ll then get an instant personalised reply from @AusPolling telling you not just the location of your closest polling spot and it’s accessibility, but also if they’ll have the tasty sausage and cake treats you seek!

If we aren’t able to determine your exact location (if you don’t have location services turned on for example), you will receive a Tweet reply showing you how to enable precise location to bring you one step closer to you casting your vote and your sweet or savoury reward.

To make sure we have the most up to date information about polling places and their sausage sizzle and cake stall status, we need your help. If you are running or know of a polling station near you that is hosting a #ausvotes barbeque or cake stall on election day, visit our mates over at Election Sausage Sizzle to register and make sure you’re included in Australia’s biggest voting snack database.

Enjoy your election day sausage, cake or both: after this marathon campaign you certainly will have earned it! And don’t forgot to Tweet your pics on the day using the hashtag #ausvotes.
