Earlier this week, we wrapped up our first Twitter Hatch gathering, where a packed house heard from our top 10 finalists. It was great to see a field of entrants who truly represented the world; finalists came from London, India, Canada, Mexico and across the U.S. It confirmed our belief that the next great app can come from anywhere.
Each finalist had two minutes to pitch our panel of judges (Prashant Sridharan, Wayne Chang and Jana Messerschmidt). Each judge could ask one question, and each finalist had one minute to answer.
And the winners are….
Mexico City-based startup Bridgefy (@bridgefy) walked away with the grand prize. Bridgefy’s messaging app has the slogan “Connecting the unconnected”. The app lets users send texts, images and files without an Internet connection or SMS. It leverages several tools through Fabric including Digits, Crashlytics, and Beta.
First runner-up was CityFalcon (@cityfalconfolio). Based in London, CityFalcon offers financial news, with Twitter as its exclusive content source. The app makes use of financial big data from Twitter by leveraging Gnip, then uses the power of Twitter and crowd curation to provide a comprehensive and timely resource for investors and traders.
Rounding out the three finalists was second runner-up HaystackTV (@haystacktv), which empowers people to watch the news they care about via a personalized headline news channel. The app leverages the Twitter API to process millions of Tweets to see which news videos are currently trending, and incorporates the Twitter Kit for people to link their Twitter account and get more personalized video news based on who they follow.
The grand prize includes $25K, mentoring opportunities, Twitter Ad credits, and VIP access to Flight, our developer conference. The two runners-up also receive cash prizes of $10K or $5K based on their standing.
We’re looking for to many future opportunities to meet and feature other developers building amazing apps with Fabric and Twitter.
