Discontinuing support for Twitter Kit SDK

Twitter Kit is our open source iOS, Android, and Unity SDK for displaying Tweets, authorizing Twitter users, and working with the Twitter API. Twitter Kit makes it easy to pull engaging Twitter content into your apps. In December, we open sourced this SDK, to allow developers to build upon and contribute. By making it open source, we encouraged the community to build on the code and improve it.

On October 31, 2018, we will no longer actively contribute to, or accept issues and pull requests on, the open sourced SDKs (iOS, Android, Unity) on GitHub. After this date we will also stop releasing the SDKs through Cocoapods, Carthage, and Bintray JCenter. Documentation and source code for all three SDKs on GitHub will remain available for consumption in an archived state.

We built Twitter Kit to help publishers build native apps, but given the evolving needs of our publishers, we have decided to sunset our support of the SDK. We plan to ramp up investments in widgets and our web embeds.

There are several alternative solutions for displaying Tweets in your app without Twitter Kit. You can render Embedded Tweets and Timelines within webviews using Twitter for Websites. You can fork the Twitter Kit project and build it into your app, or copy the parts you need into your app. Or you can use Twitter’s standard API to power your own native displays and login functionality.

We will review currently open iOS pull requests on GitHub and will continue to support security across all platforms until October 31, 2018.

If you have any questions, check out our documentation, or join the discussion in our community forums.
