Olympic fever in Britain is running high. More than 80% of UK Twitter users say they are planning to watch at least some of the #Sochi2014 Winter Olympic Games, according to new Twitter research*.

Our study found that 81% of UK Twitter users say they are likely to watch at least some of the Games. Furthermore, 54% of those people felt there was some likelihood that they would Tweet about the Games in the next fortnight.

We have put the results together in an infographic, which highlights how interest levels in these Winter Games is higher in Britain than it has been in previous years. This appears in part to be the afterglow effect from the success of London 2012, which whetted the appetite of many Britons for future Olympic action.

We can see evidence of this Olympic fervour in how the followers of British snowboarder @jennyjonessnow leapt dramatically from 7,075 followers on February 1 to more than 64,000 today, on the back of her bronze medal win in the slopestyle event.
