Their Royal Highnesses Prince William and Prince Harry appeared in a selfie today as they kicked off an online search to find inspirational young people from across the Commonwealth.

The pair appeared together in the photo along with TV presenter Jamal Edwards (@jamaledwards). It was taken at the Queen’s Young Leaders (@QueensLeaders) launch event at London’s Buckingham Palace.

The photo was captured by the Twitter Mirror (@TwitterMirror), set up by the organisers to capture and tweet out behind-the-scenes photos from the event as part of the event’s social media hub:

The organisers used Twitter to spread the word about the new initiative, and give people around the world a unique peek behind the curtain of the launch, which took place today in the stunning surroundings of Buckingham Palace.

Throughout the day, organisers used the hashtag #TheSearchIsOn to launch the hunt for 240 people aged 18 to 29 from across the Commonwealth who are to be celebrated, rewarded and supported for their achievements.

The Queen’s Young Leaders Programme is a new initiative which recognises that young people have the ability to make a huge impact on their communities, and aims to create new and exciting opportunities for young people, enabling them to reach their full potential, step up as leaders and go on to improve the lives of many others in the Commonwealth.

It was created by the been set up by the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust (@QEjubileetrust) in partnership with Comic Relief (@comicrelief) and the Royal Commonwealth Society.
