10 creative wins on Twitter in July from custom emojis, to super babies and super humans

Monday, 1 August 2016

There’s something for everyone in this month’s roundup of creative curiosities. The sports fans will be as delighted as the chocolate fans, the travel fans will be as delighted as the… erm… cow fans? The short answer is: guys, there are some wonderful campaigns this month and you’re in for a proper treat. And cows.

  1. Virgin Atlantic

Twitter is the world’s largest public archive of human thought to have ever existed. Isn’t that incredible? People’s thoughts, opinions and their dreams. You’ll find it all on Twitter. In a wonderful example of this, @VirginAtlantic went looking for the travel dreams that never happened, looking for Tweets that contained the words “one day”.

The chosen winners had their Tweets displayed on screens across the country, with only 24 hours to get in touch and claim their prize. Those lucky winners were sent on their dream holidays. Pretty awesome.

  2. Nike

Oh, this is delightful. Twitter agrees, at the time of writing this the video had gained more than 120,000 Likes. This @Nike campaign has the trinity of brilliantness - a custom emoji to get people involved, a Promoted Trend to get it noticed and loads of very cute babies to make it well, very cute.

  3. Samsung

In minutes and hours, the Olympics is just around the corner. In other senses Rio is anything but around the corner. It’s nearly 6000 miles away. That won’t stop it being MASSIVE on Twitter. Seven out of ten Twitter users say they enjoy watching sports on TV more when they’re using Twitter at the same time. No word yet on whether Jack Whitehall will be participating in any sports yet…

  4. Sky Sports

David Beckham loves running in his ads. First H&M, now @SkySports. It’s like the celebrity that can only be photographed from one angle, Beckham knows he’s looking at his best when running in tight t shirts.

  5. Lidl

Here’s a great fact. Cows are this author’s favourite animal. This month @LidlUK sent one of its customers on a fact finding mission to Scotland. The trip was to find out how @LidlUK raised its beef after she Tweeted Lidl to ask about its meat provenance. Lucky lady, cows are so brilliant.

  6. Cadbury

Each week in the UK there are over 18,000 mentions of Cadbury (Twitter internal data) and its much loved brands. To celebrate the joy that Dairy Milk brings, @CadburyUK has launched its very own custom emoji for Twitter. It has also enlisted the help of the brilliant Vine star @LeslieWai to show us what a party in your mouth feels like.

  7. HSBC

Android Pay has landed at @HSBC_UK. To celebrate it has worked with some incredible creators from our Niche network to create beautiful stop motion animations about contactless payments.

  8. Virgin Media

Bolt can run 100m in 9.58 seconds. That’s so fast. Internet fast, as Virgin Media would say. @BBHLondon has created a beautiful film looking at what nine seconds feels like. The film was launched at 9:58pm on the Thames, shown on a 100m running track screen, complete with a really fun custom Usain Bolt emoji. You could even Tweet @virginmedia to see your message on the big screen.

  9. Suicide Squad

Surely this is going to be film of the year? The hype on Twitter has been building since the announcement back in 2014 when news broke that Warner Bros would be making the film. Since then there have been millions of mentions. This film showing the making of the UV Graffiti in East London is ace.

  10. Channel 4

And finally, we’ll end on what is easily the best film this month. @Channel4 has continued its heritage of creating fantastic films for their Paralympics coverage with this #Superhumans trailer. A brilliant, uplifting celebration of human achievement.
