It’s hard to believe that the Hawks and Freo were battling it out for AFL Premiership supremacy only 168 days ago — and that the biggest name in the game would stun us all to make the move from the reigning Premiers to the title-chasing Swans.

Will the Hawks take to Twitter on the last Saturday in September again, repeating their most RTd Tweet of all time?

Or, will another team burst from the pack to take down the reigning Premiers, who, by the way, have had a pre-season for the ages. Can anyone stop them?

We will all find out this week as the AFL season starts with a split round and games all across the country.

AFL fans love Twitter and it’s no wonder. Clubs, players, coaches and the AFL themselves have been using Twitter to engage, entertain and inform their legion fans for years.

More than 550 AFL players are on Twitter today. Last year they ensured fans had a backstage pass to observe the life of a professional athlete:

Twitter ensures you won’t miss a thing during the 2014 AFL Premiership season.

The Opening Round begins on Friday night as Collingwood take on Fremantle at Etihad Stadium and concludes on Sunday March 23rd with a battle of the ‘wests’: West Coast v Western Bulldogs at Patersons Stadium.

You can follow all the action and get involved with fans from around the country by using the official Opening Round match day hashtags:

One of these men will be holding the cup aloft. The only question to be determined… which one will it be?
