Today Nielsen announced they will bring the “Nielsen Twitter TV Rating,” an industry-standard TV metric based entirely on Twitter data, to Australia.
As the experience of watching TV and using Twitter to connect with the TV show and other fans continues to grow rapidly in popularity, our TV partners here have consistently asked for one common benchmark from which to measure the social engagement of their programming. The NTTR metric is intended to answer that request, and will complement current TV audience measurements in Australia.
Twitter is the social soundtrack to TV today. Our communications platform is public, live, and conversational; it’s also widely distributed, and that makes it the ultimate tool for fans to express themselves whilst watching their favourite TV programs.
Ultimately we have one goal for this new metric: to make watching TV with Twitter even better for TV fans. We also hope it will help create innovative new uses of the platform with broadcast partners.
