Add a little colour to your Tweets on #WorldEmojiDay

Friday 17 July is World Emoji Day, celebrating those tiny pictures that are the perfect way to add a little extra colour to your Tweets. Emojis can convey emotion faster and in less characters than words, so it’s no surprise they’re so popular on Twitter.

With everyone from politicians to sports stars to brands using these expressive little images to communicate, we’re marking World Emoji Day by taking a look at some of the great ways emojis have been used in Tweets.

Foreign Minister @JulieBishopMP has been dubbed Australia’s “Queen of the emoji” after using the emotive little pics to respond to Tweets sent to her by users.

Bishop then took things one step further by conducting an interview with @BuzzFeedOz with her responses provided exclusively by emoji. Could it be more than a coincidence that @JulieBishopMP’s birthday just happens to be on #WorldEmojiDay?

@theage newspaper in Melbourne has been having fun with readers with a quiz on Melbourne’s train stations using only emojis as clues to the answers.

@NAB also went down the quiz route, offering a @Socceroos viewing party pack for fans fluent in football emoji.

Brands around the world have also been quick to get a slice of the emoji action, including @KFCAustralia who launched an emoji competition to introduce their #BonelessHotSpicy range.

In the sports world, @rogerfederer is the current reigning champ, with his finalist performance in the tournament matched by his emoji game off the court.

Twitter also has it’s own exclusive emojis which you can add to your Tweets by using special hashtags. @CodySimpson, the most-followed Australian on Twitter, recently became the first person anywhere in the world to have a Twitter emoji of their image made for them to celebrate the release of his new album, “Free.”
