#FridayForGood is the day when our employees take time to give back by working with local non-profit and community-based organisations. It’s an integral part of Twitter’s community outreach, and a matter of great pride to us – one that’s fundamental to defining our identity.
@TwitterAU kicked off today’s efforts by teaming up with @SecondBite_org and @OurBigKitchen to transform high-quality surplus food into delicious and nutritious Meals that Matter for disadvantaged Australians and local community groups.
Food insecurity is an enormous problem for 1.2M Australians, and yet every year $8B worth of food is wasted in Australia. Sydney businesses alone throw out 340,000 tonnes of food every year.
This is where @SecondBite_org comes in.
@SecondBite_org rescues surplus fresh food from waste, and donates it to community food programs serving vulnerable Australians. Second Bite has recently teamed up with Sydney non-profit and community-run @OurBigKitchen, which prepares meals for distribution to community groups in and around the city.
On 17 April, Twitter’s Australian flock donned our aprons and chef’s hats to cook a delicious two-course meal with food donated by @SecondBite_org with the team at @OurBigKitchen. To a person, we were caught up in unbridled enthusiasm in testing our culinary ability to create these meals for local families.
The importance of work that @SecondBite_org and @OurBigKitchen do in their local communities cannot be overstated, and the Twitter team were truly honoured to be able to help out these incredible and very worthy causes.
As #FridayForGood rolls out around the world, we look forward to seeing all the diverse and meaningful activities our colleagues undertake in Twitter offices across the globe. Keep an eye on the#FridayforGood hashtag and the Twitter for Good blog to see what our flock has been up to all around the world.
