How #CWC15 played out on Twitter across the world

As the world’s 14 best cricket teams did battle over the last six weeks, all of the tournament’s special moments played out on Twitter in real time. To illustrate just how engaging the Twitter conversation has been, we’ve compiled the numbers and their visualizations for #CWC15.

1. 1.4 billion Tweets viewed

Cricket fans all over the world came to Twitter to talk about winning moments, shocking upsets - and of course, some of the most exciting moments of #CWC15. This contributed to more than 1.4 billion live views (impressions) of Tweets across every match throughout the six week tournament (as measured by looking at how many times live Tweets posted about #CWC15 were viewed on Twitter during each match).

2. The India-Australia semifinal had the most live-Tweet impressions

The most-followed match was the semifinal between eventual champions Australia and defending champions India. Not surprisingly, the traditional #INDvPAK rivalry in the group stages was the second-most engaged with game on Twitter. The final between the two hosts, @BLACKCAPS and @CricketAus, came in third – partially due to its one-sided nature.

3. The most-Tweeted moment: the winning six in the #NZvSA semifinal

One of the most thrilling games ever in a World Cup, #NZvSA, ended heartbreakingly for the Proteas, but the @BLACKCAPS won acclaim across the world, especially for Grant Elliot (@grantelliottnz). His winning shot was the most Tweeted-about moment of the series.

Mohit Sharma capturing Sohail Khan’s wicket – @BCCI’s winning moment against @TheRealPCB – also sent fans into a frenzy. It was the second most-Tweeted-about moment. India’s unexpected win over @OfficialCSA in the group stage was the third most-Tweeted about moment of the tournament.

4. Most-Retweeted Tweets

It was @narendramodi’s cheer for India after his countrymen beat rivals @TheRealPCB that became the most-Retweeted Tweet.
