Since making updates to the Twitter Help Centre and the Twitter Rules last year, we have been collecting feedback and talking to experts in the field, including our Trust & Safety Council which is a foundational part of our strategy to ensure that people feel safe expressing themselves on Twitter.
Earlier this year, Twitter and one of our Trust & Safety Council partners, the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV), introduced the Safety & Privacy on Twitter: A Guide for Survivors of Harassment and Abuse which provided detailed explanations of Twitter’s policies and best safety practices.
For the past six months, we’ve been redesigning our policy enforcement framework to address many concerns raised during the consultative process with our global safety partners. In response to these consultations, last week we released product and policy updates to help combat abuse on Twitter.
Today, we would like to announce the release of our updated Twitter Safety & Privacy Guide which you can download here. This Guide builds on the tools we already have in place - like block, mute, report, and our quality filter - but now includes recent additions like our new hateful conduct reporting flow and the ability to mute keywords and conversations in your notifications.
Understanding how to respond to online harassment and abuse is just as important as controlling your own account and privacy. This Guide focuses on how we define harassment and what constitutes a violation of our Terms of Services, as well as provides a detailed look at how you choose who can see your Tweets, how you manage your publicly available information, and how you control the sharing of your location.
We want our platform to be a place of free speech, safety, and enjoyment. We are committed to rapidly improving Twitter based on everything we observe and learn, and we will continue to work towards creating a platform where everyone has access to support and protection on Twitter.
