63 days after the election was called, and after more than a week of votes being counted, the marathon #ausvotes election is coming to a close.

Twitter has been the front row seat to the 2016 Australian Federal election campaign, connecting pollies, punters and pundits in the political conversation.

In fact, on election day alone, there were more than 122 million views of #ausvotes related Tweets. Here are some of the key #ausvotes moments over the last eight weeks.

Opposition Leader @billshortenmp took to Twitter to officially concede and congratulate the Prime Minister on his victory.

Prime Minister @TurnbullMalcolm and senior Government officials haven’t wasted any time getting straight back to work on their second term.

Since polling day on 2 July, candidates across Australia have taken to Twitter to thank supporters, declare victory and concede defeat.

As Australia waited for an official result on who would form Government, #ausvotes became #auswaits, with key Independents joining the conversation.

Of course, it wouldn’t be an Australian election without the predictions and commentary of veteran election analyst @AntonyGreenABC, who officially called the election for the Coalition.

As the conversation now turns from #auswaits back to Australia’s most trended hashtag #auspol, follow @govAU for all the latest updates.
