Auston Matthews (@AM34) of the Toronto Maple Leafs is entering his fourth @NHL season and in each of his first three regular season campaigns, he had the most Twitter mentions of any @NHL player account. In 2019/2020, he’ll have assorted teammates, young superstars and familiar faces in new places vying for that title.

These were the five @NHL players with the most Twitter account mentions during the 2019/2020 regular season:

  1. Auston Matthews (@AM34), Toronto Maple Leafs
  2. Brad Marchand (@BMarch63), Boston Bruins
  3. Connor McDavid (@cmcdavid97), Edmonton Oilers
  4. Alexander Ovechkin (@ovi8), Washington Capitals
  5. John Tavares (@91Tavares), Toronto Maple Leafs

The feisty @BMarch63 also had the most Twitter mentions of any @NHL player account during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, after helping to lead the Bruns to their third final this decade. Jordan Binnington (@binnnasty) and David Pastrnak (@pastrnak96) ranked second and third in account mentions during the league’s second season.

During the offseason, the Toronto Maple Leafs’ Mitch Marner (@Marner93) had more account mentions than any @NHL player. This was primarily fueled by debates of his contract situation and uncertainty over his status with the team, longterm.

Amongst @NHL stars switching teams, these are the player accounts with the most mentions

  1. P.K. Subban (@PKSubban1), New Jersey Devils
  2. Artemiy Panarin (@9Artemi), New York Rangers
  3. Robin Lehner (@RobinLehner), Chicago Blackhawks
  4. Matt Duchene (@Matt9Duchene), Nashville Predators
  5. Nazem Kadri (@43_Kadri), Colorado Avalanche
