Tune in to Twitter

By Twitter UK

Watching TV has always been a social experience. People want to talk about their favourite programmes, or share the excitement when their team scores a winning goal. Broadcasters understand this desire to interact and are increasingly giving their viewers a very easy way to do that through Twitter. By showing hashtags on air, they can tell you where the conversation is happening and let you know how to join in. As a viewer, it means that you can share your experience with others in real time.

This was a big weekend for TV in the UK with two new talent competitions premiering - Britain’s Got Talent and The Voice UK. Both programmes integrated hashtags on air and had judges that actively tweeted. As a result the engagement on Twitter was strong. In fact, between Saturday and Sunday there were 158,625 Tweets with the hashtag #TheVoiceUK and 146,001 with the hashtag #BGT.

People come to Twitter to connect with what they’re interested in, and for many this weekend, that meant #BGT and #TheVoiceUK. If you would like to join the conversation, keep an eye on the hashtags and follow your favourite judges on Twitter.
