Announcing the Man Booker on Vine

Thursday, 12 September 2013

The Man Booker Prize (@ManBookerPrize) drove international interest around its 2013 shortlist by bringing it to life with Vine and Twitter.

@ManBookerPrize for Fiction is a literary prize awarded each year for the best original full-length novel written in English from the Commonwealth, Ireland and Zimbabwe, and is of great significance to the book trade.

The Man Booker team used Vine (@vineapp) to announce its 2013 shortlist.

Whilst the short list had previously been announced via Twitter, this was the first time the organisers were able to use Vine to show the longlist become the shortlist:

To celebrate the announcement, the Man Booker team went on to invite their Twitter and Vine followers to create their interpretation of one of the longlisted books using the hashtag #MBShortlist. The winner will get a signed set of the six shortlisted novels.

To inspire book lovers to get creative, Man Booker tweeted out an individual Vine post for each of the six shortlisted novels:

Fans of literature can follow several of the previous winners of the Man Booker Prize on Twitter, including Margaret Atwood (@MargaretAtwood) and Salman Rushdie (@SalmanRushdie), as well as the @TwitterBooks account for updates about books and the folks who write them.

Vine is a free app for creating six-second looping videos. It’s available to download from the App Store and from Google Play. You can follow Vine on Twitter at @Vineapp.
