November 2013 was all about one thing - weird and wonderful facial hair. The public, celebrities and even trains sprouted moustaches for the month in support of the charity Movember (@MovemberUK), all designed to raise awareness of men’s health.

According to data from Topsy, during November there were more than a million mentions of Movember on Twitter.

As the Movember movement celebrated its 10th anniversary, footballers past and present played a starring role. Among the clubs that took part were Liverpool (@LFC), Birmingham City (@BcfcDotCom) and Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial):

At @SpursOfficial, former player Ledley King took up the challenge on behalf of @gettoknowcancer, a charity that the club supports:

@SpursOfficial took a look back through its past album of players and discovered some cracking Movember looks, including former player and manager Glenn Hoddle:

TV presenter @Gabby_Logan got in on the photo album action, sharing this fine Movember ‘tash of former player and manager (and her dad) Terry Yorath from 1978:

The world of rugby was not to be outdone. A host of rugby stars threw their weight behind Movember including @George_North, @Jamiehuwroberts, @JordanCrane86 and @Manutuilagi:

As well as sporting personalities, plenty of celebrities backed Movember this year.

Movember hasn’t just been about people. It was also about planes, trains and automobiles:
