The UK Safer Internet Centre (@UK_SIC) has been using Twitter to help spread the word about Safer Internet Day 2013, which took place today.

The UK Safer Internet Centre delivers a wide range of activity to promote the safe and responsible use of technology. The theme of Safer Internet Day 2013 was ‘Connect with Respect’, which was brought to life in this information video:

In order to promote their work to parents, teachers and young people, the organisation sent Tweets over the course of the day from a number of Twitter accounts including Safer Internet Day Radio (@SID2013Radio), the Safer Internet Centre (@UK_SIC) and the global Safer Internet Day account (@safeinternetday).

They also used the platform to promote the Safer Internet Day radio marathon, which ran from 9am to 9pm, and included an interview with Twitter’s Director of Trust and Safety, Del Harvey (@Delbius).

The team used Twitter to retweet messages from supporters and partners including @childnet:

At Twitter we shared safety tips with our followers to mark the day:

The Safer Internet Centre was the first UK participant in the Twitter Ads For Good programme, which provides pro bono Twitter advertising to selected charities and non-profit organisations.
