Last night was a huge Twitter evening at the Brit Awards, for artists, bands and a host of big name brands. According to social analytics firm @SecondSync there were more than four million Tweets. Music fans also voted for the Best British Video in the awards’ first ever-social vote.

Here’s how some well-known brands from the worlds of beauty, entertainment and sport joined the #BRITs2014 conversation.

Hair care brand @VO5 teamed up with #BRITs2014 to become the first brand in the UK to use Twitter’s Amplify programme.

With fashion tips and backstage pics there was plenty of activity from @VO5:

As a notable night of glamour there were other beauty brands taking part in the conversation, with tips from @revlonUK:

Music needs to be heard wherever you are and one of the music world’s favourite headphone brands, in @beatsbydreuk, was there with some Tweet action:

The Brits are always an opportunity to discover music; naturally @Spotify was Tweeting on the night:

Another music brand in @Googleplay was also active last night with its suggestion of listening material:

What’s better than watching the Brits and enjoying a chocolate treat? @CadburyUK was ready and rolled out a string of creative Tweets during the evening:

Like many, sponsor @MastercardUK was ready with its congratulations for the big winners of the night:

The Brit Awards are an example of just how many brands were successfully taking part in the conversation. Here are a few more we noticed: @Phones4U, @Asos, @Wirelessfest, @HPUK, @Bacardiuk and, of course, @paddypower.

As a brand that is always looking to inject some fun into proceedings @paddypower did not disappoint:

The Brit Awards highlights perfectly how brands can join the conversation when major live events take place and plan for the moment.
