#TeamEurope beat #TeamUSA on Sunday to win the #RyderCup for the third consecutive time. There were several big moments on Twitter, but the largest spike in conversation came when Jamie Donaldson (@DonaldsonJamie) sealed the victory for Team Europe.

This map shows how the entire tournament played out on Twitter around the world:

Many brands took part in the conversation during the #RyderCup action at Gleneagles, which came complete with the backdrop of the Scottish countryside where wildlife is close at hand.

The international rivalry is a chance for brands to show their colours. @rollsroycecars achieved this by asking followers for their predictions. @PUMAGolf gave an indication of how #TeamUSA were ready for Scotland.

@paddypower played with humour as it won backing for #TeamEurope from @UKIP leader @Nigel_Farage. Farage was the star of a bespoke piece of content that was made especially for the tournament. It was widely shared and perfectly timed for the party political conference season, which coincided with the #RyderCup.

For many, golf is a game of quiet skill and absolute concentration. @StellaArtoisUK echoed this in a captivating GIF, while @SamsungUK focused on the pain of those near misses.

As #RyderCup play progressed, BMW shared many of the biggest moments through its Twitter handle created specifically for the Ryder Cup – @BMWPGA.

In the end, the competition and the congratulations went to #TeamEurope. @VisitScotland, @GuinnessIreland and @BMWPGA were among the many brands that were quick to offer their best wishes to the winning team.

The #RyderCup is one of the highlights of the golfing calendar. But as @bet365 noted, there’s no need to worry – it will back in a little over 700 days.
