Tweeting the BRIT nominees

In the run-up to one of the most important nights of the UK music calendar, the @BRITAwards used Twitter and Vine to break news of the nominations.

On a day that saw artists nervously waiting for news of who would be nominated, the team behind the @BRITAwards account used Twitter as the first place to share news of the nominations and other updates with artists and music fans alike. 

Using the hashtag #BRITs2014, the @BRITAwards account live-tweeted the nominations as they were announced.

Many of the nominees also used Twitter to celebrate the news: 

After the nominations the account continued the excitement by using Vine to show sneak glimpses of the artists performing ahead tonight’s @ITV show ‘The Brits Are Coming’. They even used the six-second video app to give fans the first ever look at performer @PixieLott’s new single: 

The BRITs team also used Twitter to announce that @EllieGoulding, who was nominated for three awards, would perform at the award ceremony next month: 

Music fans use Twitter to get closer to the artists they love, and musicians use the platform to speak directly with their followers. Seven of the ten most-followed Twitter accounts in the world belong to musicians, and three out of the five top ten retweets of 2013 were music-related.
