When it comes to Valentine’s Day, there is a huge conversation taking place on Twitter. There were more than 29 million Tweets1 mentioning Valentine’s Day globally during February last year, and with 2016 being a leap year, the spirit of romance has a chance to extend one more day.

Millions will be getting cards, flowers, and chocolates on the day, and many will take inspiration from Twitter when they search for ideas. As our research highlights, the day is increasingly associated with trying new things. And that can often be food because of the close relationship that Valentine’s Day has with preparing or going somewhere for a special meal.

Our research found that compared to men, women are 70% more likely to be disappointed if they don’t receive anything on Valentine’s Day. Don’t panic though there are still five shopping days left until the special day.
