Hashtags and live conversation: How #LFW happened on Twitter

Thursday, 22 September 2016

Twitter is the home of live, and every day we see events and conversations unfold in real-time on our platform. It’s no different during London Fashion Week. People flock to Twitter to talk about the latest fashion trends and hottest designers at #LFW, and get a taste of the looks everyone will be wearing in the new season.

If you didn’t make it to the #SS17 shows, brands made it easy for you to get closer to what was happening on and off the runway, and experience #LFW as if you were sitting there alongside Gigi and Zayn.

And @LondonFashionWk led the way, Tweeting video highlights, stunning images and interviews from backstage and from the catwalk.

#LFW kicked off with a lot of excitement from retailers as @Selfridges used GIFs to share what it loved and @hmunitedkingdom Tweeted about its sustainable #LFW project.

Labels were just as active on Twitter. @Versace teased its much-anticipated Versus collection on Twitter days before the runway show, using the hashtag #VersusTakesLDN. And on the day, a Tweet showing off a pair of front-row VIPs got a lot of love.

@Burberry presented its first “shop the show” collection making its looks available for purchase as soon as they appeared on the catwalk.

‘Building on the event at #LFW, @Burberry drove conversation around its exhibition at the Makers House in London, using the hashtag #BurberryMakersHouse. Celebrities like @Alexa_Chung and @Jenna_Coleman_ invited fashion fans to join in and see the inspiration behind the collections.

@Topshop also debuted its own runway-to-retail model, using the hashtag #TopshopUnique.

The last days of the event saw an unexpected collaboration between @Crocs_UK and @ChristopherKane. How nice are those?

Cosmetic and beauty brands always have something to offer around #LFW and @AvedaUK,@rimmellondonuk and @BenefitUK did not disappoint.

Beyond the world of fashion, a variety of brands found creative angles into the #LFW conversation on Twitter.

And with that, we leave you with some tips from @RiverIsland on how to make sure you get snapped in the next fashion week.
