Bridging all barriers, #MyDilliStory unites Delhi on Twitter

On 5th September, @DelhiILoveYou, a movement dedicated to the love of the city, along with the Delhi government, launched #MyDilliStory on Twitter — and the response has been incredible. Running until 26th September, this three-week campaign encourages users to Tweet about their special memories, places, moments, and emotions attached to Delhi. The campaign kicked off with a Tweet from Arvind Kejriwal (@ArvindKejriwal), Delhi’s Chief Minister:

We want fellow authors, aspiring writers, city dwellers, migrants, students, musicians, artists, and just about anyone living in Delhi to share their love for the city. You can write it in 140 characters or express it through photos, videos, poems, or quotes. And we want you to say it in a language of your choice: in English, Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu.

The video below, featuring Daler Mehndi (@dalermehndi), Rana Dasgupta (@ranadasgupta), Shantanu & Nikhil (@shantanunikhil), Adil Hussain (@_AdilHussain), Indian Ocean Band (@Indianoceanband) and other prominent Indians, has become a source of inspiration for Delhiites to join the campaign:

The #MyDilliStory campaign also takes Tweets from the online world to the offline world — we’ll paint the 40 best Tweets in 40 public locations throughout the city. These will be painted by the city’s signboard painters, in an art style that’s raw, local, and inherently Delhi in nature.

The top 40 Tweets will be selected by an established jury of members from the literary world including: Rakhshandha Jalil (@RakhshandaJalil), writer; Sadia Dehlvi (@sadiadehlvi), writer; Aman Nath, writer/founder of Neemrana Hotels; Shivani Singh (@shivaniss62), Metro editor at Hindustan Times; Manoj Pandey, creator of @TalesOnTweet; Prof. Renuka Singh, Chairperson of Punjabi Sahit Sangh; and Dr. Mohammad Kasim, Associate Professor of Urdu at University of Delhi.

#MyDilliStory takes pride in uniting four languages on one common platform - stories are being told in English, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu. Delhiites are proud of all that their city collectively has to offer and the best Tweets stand testimony to their love and pride. Some of the Top Tweets that have surfaced during this campaign indicate that Delhiites have called their city the ‘heart of India’ for it is a blend of cultures, traditions and languages. However fast paced the city life maybe, Delhi lovers believe it has its passion and emotions intact, with plenty to inspire them creatively. From the lanes of Chandni Chowk to Jama Masjid and Red Fort, Old Delhi is a time travel expedition that let you relive history. Talking about the democracy that Delhi offers, some believe that the city welcomes everyone with open arms.
