Providing more transparency around advertising on Twitter

Thursday, 28 June 2018

Last year, we announced our intention to provide transparency for all ads running on Twitter, with a specific emphasis on political advertising. Our first step towards this was releasing a new Political Campaigning Ads Policy for US federal elections and candidates.

Today we’re pleased to share the second part of our efforts, the Ads Transparency Center, which allows anyone across the globe to view ads that have been served on Twitter.

What does it look like?

Similar to the search experience on Twitter, to view ads from any advertiser you will be able to simply search for a specific handle and see the creative for all ad campaigns that have run within the last 7 days from that handle.

Who has access to the Ads Transparency Center?

Everyone around the world will have access to the Ads Transparency Center. No login or Twitter account will be required, making it very simple for people to have clear insight and details on who is advertising on Twitter. The Ads Transparency Center will include all advertisers on Twitter globally.

What’s next?

We will be launching a specific issue ads policy in the future, as well as enhancements to the Ads Transparency Center itself. In addition, we are examining how to adapt and internationalize both political campaigning and issue ads policies. We are doing our due diligence to get this right and will have more updates to come. We stay committed to iterating and improving our work in this space, and doing what’s right for our community.
