On December 4th this year, the “2019 Mnet Asian Music Awards(2019 MAMA),” the most iconic Global KPOP award, took place successfully. From October 24, the date which the #2019MAMA vote was started, to December 4, the day of the event, the fans from around the world generated around 102 million Tweets on Twitter. On Twitter, the Kpop fans from around the world used the official hashtags of the 2019 MAMA (#2019MAMA, #MAMARedCarpet, #MnetAsianMusicAwards) and actively communicated with each other. The #MAMAVOTE hashtag, used for the ‘Worldwide Fans’ Choice’ award voting by the 2019 MAMA, was mentioned 69 million times during the voting period, recording itself as the most used 2019 MAMA-related hashtag.
Prior to the event, MAMA’s official Twitter account has unveiled the ‘Star Countdown’, the program which reveals the teaser video starred by each Kpop artist who participates in the 2019 MAMA from the D-30, and the program has received a lot of attention from the Kpop fans.
From 4 pm on the day of the event, Twitter has opened the #2019MAMA special event page so that fans can participate in the real-time conversation regarding MAMA as well as the ‘Red Carpet Twitter Live Stream’. ‘The Red Carpet Twitter Live Stream’ and the ‘Thank You Stage TwitterBlueroom (#TwitterBlueroom) Live Stream,’ the stream in which the artists share their award speech, recorded a combined real-time viewership of three million, without counting the viewership from the replays.
Twitter’s exclusive content ‘Red Carpet Twitter 360’ received passionate responses from fans around the world. The Red Carpet 360 video starring BTS (@BTS_twt) became the best of the top Tweets that recorded the most Retweets. The video clip, which was starred by BTS and posted on MAMA’s official Twitter account (@MnetMAMA) recorded around 140 thousand Retweets, around 300 thousand likes, as well as 2.25 million accumulated views.
