As a result of the prolonged COVID-19 situation, a large number of people are feeling depressed and anxious, a condition which has been dubbed the “coronavirus blues.” Experts recommend engaging in activities that can lift one’s mood, even at home, such as listening to music or watching movies as a way to prevent these coronavirus blues. In the midst of these difficult times caused by COVID-19, the global Kpop group, GoldenChild (@Official_GNCD), presented a surprise gift for Kpop fans all over the world.

They made a full video of their first-ever concert titled “FUTURE AND PAST” in January available for live streaming on Twitter. This was organized as part of the #StaySafeWithGoldenChild campaign by GoldenChild and Twitter as a way to help global Kpop fans overcome the ‘corona-blue’ and to encourage them to practice social distancing.

Upon receiving this news, fans Tweeted, “I’m so excited,” “I’m ready to meet the oppas" (Note: “Oppa” is a title used to refer to an older brother or an older male in general), and so on; along with the hashtag #StaySafeWithGoldenChild announced by Twitter, to show their support for the group as they waited for the release of the video.

The footage unveiled via Twitter showed performances of 24 songs including their debut single, “DamDaDi” as well as performances by the group’s sub-units (the members of a Kpop group sometimes form a “sub-unit” based on a special theme, specific style of music, etc.). The video was streamed live for 3 hours and was watched by some 650,000 viewers, who were able to feel as though they were at the concert.

A GoldenChild fan (official fan club called Goldenness) said, “They are so kind and considerate,” in reference to the subtitled description: “This concert was held in January, and GoldenChild decided to release this video to help their fans overcome the coronavirus blues caused by restrictions against social activities including going to concerts.

What brought the greatest joy to the fans of GoldenChild was that the group decided to communicate with them on Twitter. During the concert’s livestream, the members of the group interacted with  fans in a live chat room and even posted pictures of themselves watching the footage with their light sticks (most of the popular Kpop bands have official “light sticks,” which fans use to cheer them on at concerts, etc.) on their official Twitter account. Fans expressed their excitement upon seeing the members in the live chat room and took screenshots to be shared the images to their respective Twitter accounts.
