Lending a hand in our San Francisco neighborhood

One of the reasons people come to work at Twitter is to make a positive difference in the world. Some of this passion is reflected in our San Francisco office — our home base. The unique creativity and inventiveness that embodies our city is a central part of Twitter’s DNA. And in order to help foster a healthy community, our Bay area employees are eager to contribute their time and talents to the neighborhoods closest to us.

On Friday, June 6, more than 500 of our employees volunteered with 29 local nonprofits that serve the Tenderloin, central Market, and South of Market community, contributing more than 1,500 hours of service to a range of organizations. We call this bi-annual day of service #FridayforGood.

Folks across virtually all parts of the company spent time out in the community by volunteering with a range of service organizations including GLIDE, St. Anthony’s, Compass Family Services, Mural Music & Arts ProjectBoys & Girls Club, De Marillac Academy, Meals on Wheels, the Housing Negotiation Project and lots more.

Volunteers prepared and served meals at sites around the Tenderloin. We assisted in building and maintenance tasks at housing facilities and schools, distributed disaster preparedness kits to homebound seniors, played games with local children, taught computer skills to seniors, and critiqued resumes and cover letters for job seekers. In addition, the Housing Negotiation Project and members of our legal team collaborated on developing legal strategies to assist families facing eviction.

Our employees came away from the day feeling even more connected to our neighborhood. Cheryl Palarca from our HR operations team enjoyed connecting with a new friend at Curry Senior Center:

The Marketing & Communications team were all smiles after helping organize and tidy the closets at Larkin Street Youth Services:

Designers Sarah Lindberg, Bryan Innes and Samantha Warren put their skills to use to help CounterPULSE create a new visual design for its social media outreach.

Our San Francisco team really enjoyed the day of service, and many of the organizations we partnered with were kind enough to thank us too.

While many Twitter employees volunteer their time and skills throughout the year, we enjoy taking time company-wide twice a year to help strengthen our connections to the people who live and work nearby. Here’s the full list of groups we worked with on this #FridayforGood, with our thanks for hosting us.
