The Billboard Trending 140: Aug. 25-Sept. 1

Saturday, 6 September 2014

This has been a special week for two artists: @raesremmurd and @5SOS had not one, but two tracks in their respective charts. @raesremmurd’s “No Flex Zone” remained on the overall Emerging top 10 tracks this week, and was joined by the duo’s very own “No Type.”

@5SOS regained the top spot on this week’s Trending 140 Top 10 with “Amnesia”, while adding “Good Girls Are Bad Girls” for the first time. With anticipation rising around the release of their EP, and a teaser campaign leading up to the announcement of the 5SOS convention, DerpCon, chatter around this band remains at an all-time high.

After breaking the record for most views in 24 hours with her video for “Anaconda” (now at over 122 million views and counting),and her song staying strong at #2 on the Trending 140 Top 10, @NickiMinaj announced that her new album, “The PinkPrint,” will be released on November 28.

@KanyeWest premiered a snippet of his new song “Awesome” during the weekend’s broadcast of the “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” finale, and his song shot up to #2 in new debuts for the week.

After eight weeks in the top five of the overall Emerging chart and dominating on @Vineapp, @BobbyShmurdaGS9 signed a major label deal with @Epic_Records, has graduated off the chart, as he has now surpassed 50,000 followers. Keeping the music coming, he released a remix for “Hot N****,” which has surpassed 120 thousand plays.

Emerging artists shine
Canadian singer-songwriter @Kiesza’s “Hideaway” has been in the overall Emerging top three tracks for five consecutive weeks and there is no sign of it slowing down. She has multiple remixes supporting the song’s traction, and conducted a Twitter Q&A on August 26 with all of her fans.

Two artists entered the overall emerging top 10 after launching their songs on Aug. 25 and Aug. 26 respectively. @AudioPush’s “Mary Jane” quickly joined the overall emerging top 10 at #6, while pop duo @SayLouLou’s cover of Daft Punk’s “Instant Crush” came in at #8.

Music videos matter
Now at 62 million views and continuing to grow, @LittleMix’s “Move” is still making waves almost 11 months after being released, as it made it’s way towards #1 on the Trending 140 chart.
