The Billboard Trending 140: Week of July 7

By ‎@stnic‎

Summer is in full swing and competition for the song of the summer is heating up. @BustaRhyme’s new single “Calm Down” featuring @Eminem racked up over 1.2M views after its premiere on June 30th. It was the top debut of the week. @ArianaGrande came in a close second with her synth-pop stormer “Break Free,” featuring @Zedd

Trending tunes included “Thanks Mom, Thanks Dad” from @MettaWorldPeace, “BO$$” by @FifthHarmony which came out July 7, “Amnesia” from @5SOS who had the most popular song of the week (and one of the most popular music tweets of the week - happy birthday, @Ashton5SOS!), @YoungScooter “Life Support,” @ChrisBrown “New Flame” and @ChetFaker “Gold,” thanks to a re-work by @flumemusic.

Emerging artists shine
@Alt_J’s second single “Left Hand Free” hit #1 on Monday.

@BobbyShmurda’s song “Hot N****” came out in March but a new @vineapp meme pushed it back into the top three on the Emerging Chart. Shmurda’s hat toss and smooth hip shimmy “Shmoney Dance” have over 1.2M loops on Vine.

Meanwhile, @RynWeaver’s “Octahate” is holding strong with the #1 Emerging Chart song of the week.

Music videos matter
Sir @PaulMcCartney topped the charts instantly when @RollingStone premiered his new video for “Early Days,” featuring Johnny Depp.

The countdown to the @CMT premiere for “Dirt Road” by @kipmooremusic posted the song to the charts even before the video debuted.

@HowtoDressWell released the final installment to his video trilogy with the visuals for “Childhood Faith in Love” and was in the top ten on the Emerging Chart.
