Supporting the Media Literacy Council in Singapore

Thursday, 11 June 2015

To commemorate Safer Internet Day 2015, the Media Literacy Council (MLC) in Singapore (@MLCSingapore) embarked on a three-month campaign to promote good behavior among netizens. This campaign included public talks, events and online resources focused on promoting a better internet in Singapore, using the hashtag #BetterInternetSG.

The MLC is an organisation that works with government, industry, schools and other stakeholders in Singapore to educate people about using the internet and social media responsibly and productively. This includes countering hate-speech, bullying and rudeness online.

Twitter supported an Ads For Good campaign promoting #BetterInternetSG over a period of two months. The MLC used infographics to effectively convey the messages of showing empathy towards others and posting information responsibly online.

In trying to get these important messages amplified in Singapore, Twitter proved to be an important channel to reach out to youth and other target groups. Followers of @MLCSingapore increased by more than tenfold over the campaign period, which will have a strong impact on raising awareness of this important campaign amongst youth and educators in Singapore.

We look forward to continually working with the MLC, other NGO’s and educational institutions in Singapore to promote the growth of #BetterInternetSG.
