As 2014 winds down, we’re taking a last look at the stories and moments that mattered most to you across a few of our company channels.

This year, we published 1,510 blog posts across our global network of 29 blogs. We also added 10 new blogs including Small Business, Twitter España and UK Ads, among others. Here are some of the posts, and Tweets from @twitter, that sparked the biggest conversations throughout the year.

On the blogs

Whether the topic was transparency and free expression, sports championships, new products or emoji, we wrote it up. A snapshot of some of the most significant moments:

Products, partnerships and data
We announced a batch of new products and features including Fabric and Digits; we also partnered with a number of entities to share data – including IBM and the city of Jakarta – and even open-sourced our emoji.

New Twitter features
We made photos more social, rolled out new Twitter profiles, made it easy for you to find your first Tweet, and indexed every public Tweet since 2006.

Sports
If it happened in virtually any sporting event, it happened on Twitter, and we captured the action around everything from Super Bowl XLVIII, the Winter Olympics and the World Cup, to Wimbledon, the CLT20 and the World Series.

Government and politics
As always, citizen participation and free speech remain central to Twitter this year. The Turkish court overturned a take-down order for Twitter itself; we filed a federal lawsuit in order to be able to publish a fuller Transparency Report, and we released a new Twitter Government and Elections Handbook designed for political campaigners.

Our Tweets

And now, here are the top five Tweets from @twitter in 2014, based on the engagement they sparked (a combination of favorites and Retweets).

We look forward to bringing you more news and information about all things Twitter in 2015. Here’s to a safe and happy new year, and we’ll see you soon on Twitter.
