MLB All-Star: how the #FinalVote played out

Imagine a contest where 1.5 million votes decide which two players will make it into one of the biggest baseball games of the year. That’s what happened on July 11 on Twitter, in only six hours.

@MLB fans voted on @Twitter in the #FinalVote to select the final player from each of the National and American Leagues to compete in the All Star game (#ASG) on Tuesday at Citi Field. Teams came up with creative hashtags to vote for each of the 10 players such as #RaiseTheBar (@SteveDelabar_50) and #HighSocksforVotes (@Drob30).

Twitter voting was open for the final six hours of the overall vote today from 10am - 4pm ET. It drove 1,580,609 tweets - that’s over 300,000 Tweets per hour. #votefreddie led the Twitter vote, as you can see in the graph below — that’s Freddie Freeman (@FreddieFreeman5) from Atlanta.

As the Twitter vote deadline approached, thousands of fans tweeted. It created an event, which included players, teams, and celebrities all getting involved in the voting.
