What’s Happening in 2018
Even though 2018 is just getting started, there’s still a lot happening on Twitter in the gaming world. Twitter has already live streamed exciting esports competition from @EAMaddenNFL, @EASPORTSFIFA, @PUBG_DMM and @OPL.

A look at the most Tweeted about gaming topics over the past year offers a fascinating glimpse into this massive, always-on conversation. The list includes some of the biggest new game releases of 2017, but other titles reflect large communities of gamers discussing well established franchises.

Live gaming & esports video content on Twitter
Over the past 18 months, Twitter has brought esports fans live action of the top events and tournaments in the industry. From @ELEAGUETV to @thegameawards and @OPL, to a bevy of top-tier tournaments from @DreamHack and @ESLCS, passionate fans around the world could watch and talk about esports all on Twitter.
Fans have tuned into #EsportsWeekly, a weekly live 30-minute show featuring highlights and behind-the-scenes footage.
In addition to competitions and tournaments, Twitter and @IGN partnered to bring gaming fans live content from the industry’s top events like the 2017 E3 Expo. Gaming and entertainment fans worldwide saw over 30 hours of live coverage featuring major press briefings from @Sony, @Microsoft, @EA, and @Ubisoft. The live streams also included exclusive demos, new gameplay, and live interviews from the industry’s biggest game creators and producers.
And Twitter live streamed The Game Awards (@thegameawards), an annual awards ceremony that unites video game industry creators, eSports champions, influencers and Hollywood names for a night of awards, exclusive game world premieres and musical performances.
The annual awards show was a huge hit with gaming fans on Twitter, with the live stream generating 20x the unique viewers over last year’s event. Additionally, the number of people tweeting about The Game Awards related-content doubled year over year, with #TheGameAwards hashtag usage up 2.7x compared to 2016.
Innovative gaming activations on Twitter
On Twitter, fans are able to watch their favorite video game content, Tweet along with their favorite esports teams and players, and can connect with fellow fans globally to discuss what’s happening in gaming.
For the first time last year, Twitter gave esports fans the opportunity to vote for the MVP of ESL One Hamburg via a Direct Message (DM) experience. The new DM experience was the only way for ESL One fans worldwide to vote for the tournament’s most valuable player -- all from a user’s personal Direct Messages on Twitter.
Twitter BlueRoom at an arena near you
Whether you're at an arena like Barclays Center in Brooklyn or in the comfort of your home, Twitter is always helping facilitate the conversation around every esports event.
At ESL One New York last September, Twitter invited teams and players to visit to shoot exclusive Twitter promo content. The BlueRoom was decked out with Twitter swag, monitors with real-time ESL One Twitter conversation and a live stream of the tournament.
