Last week, we officially kicked off Twitter’s operations in Australia, inviting clients and partners to join us in Sydney to talk about the platform and our sales and partnerships efforts here.

Our new country director, Karen Stocks (@KazStocks), began by introducing the Twitter team and sharing stories of uniquely Australian moments on Twitter. I had the opportunity to talk about brands planning for the moment with our Promoted Products (Promoted Tweets, Accounts and Trends), and gave an update on the amazing user growth that Twitter is currently seeing worldwide, with more than 230 million global active users and 500 million Tweets sent every day.

Pam Rebecca (@rebeccapam), ANZ General Manager, Digital, joined us to talk about the immediacy of the Twitter platform and how her company uses it to provide customer service, amplify marketing messages and share updates on important business information. ANZ has seen 450% year-over-year growth of its Twitter followers for @ANZ_AU — and after recently starting to use our promoted platform, growth more than doubled.

Danny Keens (@dannykeens), Director of Media Partnerships for Australia, described the work his team does helping partners develop interesting organic content and creating “Only on Twitter” moments. He then moderated a panel that included @DanMacPherson, host of Dancing with the Stars, @CDickens, the Director of Digital & Innovation at Southern Cross Austereo, and Netballer @BiancaChatfield. Together they discussed the implications of Twitter’s real-time nature and its ability to capture in any given moment what the world is talking about.

We are grateful to our partners for making this event so memorable. A special thanks to ANZ, Coles, Tourism Victoria and Vodafone.

We’re actively growing our Australian team, so if you’d like to #jointheflock, check out twitter.com/jobs/international for our current open roles.
