The #PitchTweet competition was launched by Innovacorp (@innovacorp) with a goal of challenging entrepreneurs and companies to stretch their marketing skills by using Twitter to reach a global audience quickly.

Innovacorp Executive Director of the Momentum initiative Bob Pelley (@bobpelley) points to the expanding and increasingly fertile start-up environment in Nova Scotia (and Cape Breton, in particular) as an inspiration for the competition.

He comments, “Cape Breton boasts a growing start-up community, as it offers affordable office space, a strong community and support from organizations and entrepreneurs who are already established here. It’s often thought that you need to be in a large central city when launching a business but companies in Cape Breton have proven that thought process wrong.”

After a full day of #PitchTweet workshops about how to effectively use Twitter for business and how to craft the perfect pitch led by pitch coach Permjot Valia (@permjotvalia), the  competition launched. The competition had two streams with a local winner, judged live at the event, and a global winner, announced 24 hours after the competition launched.
