#EducationDay

Thursday, 8 October 2015

On Thursday 15 October, education-lovers across Europe are invited to come together on Twitter to participate in #EducationDay; the first European Twitter initiative that aims to unite the entire educational community in a global conversation that celebrates learning and highlights how to use Twitter to research, get inspired and inform.

#EducationDay

You can sign up for #EducationDay through this form, right now!

It will be a great opportunity to connect schools, colleges, universities, students, teachers and other educational organisations in a new way. So far, more than 170 institutions from UK, Ireland, France, Spain, Germany, and Italy have registered to participate. Check here for the list of UK participants that will be updated regularly.

What will #EducationDay entail?

#EducationDay will bridge the gap between organisations, teachers, and students through Twitter, inspiring the community with new learning opportunities, career advice and so much more.

Here is an overview of activity that users will be able to follow on the day by using the hashtag - #EducationDay:

  • Twitter in the classroom: Schools will be encouraged to embrace best practice uses of Twitter in the classroom. From teachers who use Twitter as an extension of class time, to lecturers that encourage their students to submit questions live during classes
  • Student initiatives: Extra-curricular student projects and initiatives will be celebrated, to generate conversations about entrepreneurship, voluntary programs and exciting opportunities that can be accessed through Twitter
  • Teacher tips: Teachers will be asked to offer educational tips and advice in 140 characters to encourage and motivate their students
  • Behind-the-scenes: Organisations will use #EducationDay to show off unknown cool projects they are working on, take their audiences behind-the-scenes through Periscope (@periscopeco) broadcasts of unique facilities, and host Twitter Q&A sessions to reveal more about their day-to-day activities
  • Key announcements: Organisations will be encouraged to make the most of the increased #EducationDay audience to announce key enrollment dates, course updates and special events for students

Here in the UK, schools and organisations across the country will be getting involved in a number of creative ways on the day – from teacher led Twitter Q&A sessions, to ‘day in the life’ Periscope sessions featuring schools and local business influencers, live from the classroom.

Springwell Park Primary School (@Springwellpark_) in Bootle, Merseyside are planning to Periscope a Year 4 maths lesson to give parents a unique insight into their child’s day at school.

Philip Nottingham, Computing Coordinator at Springwell Park commented: “We use Twitter all the time as a vital resource to keep parents up to date with what’s happening in the classroom and have seen considerable success with our Twitter feed. We’re really excited to get involved in #EducationDay and use Periscope to get parents even closer to their children’s learning experiences.”
