Tweeting the MTV #MovieAwards

Monday, 14 April 2014

If you watched the MTV #MovieAwards last night, chances are you laughed along with the stars as they took the stage with outrageous antics, presentations and acceptance speeches.

It’s also likely that you went on Twitter to follow the action and share your thoughts throughout the evening. If you did, you weren’t alone: there were more than 2,411,000 Tweets from 647,000 unique authors during the telecast according to the Nielsen Twitter TV Ratings (NTTR) from Nielsen Social (@NielsenSocial).

Host @ConanObrien kicked off the weekend when he took over @MTV’s Twitter account and answered fan questions, ranging from the last movie he saw to what he was most looking forward to throughout the evening.

Nominees, presenters and performers gave viewers at home an insider’s perspective from Nokia Theater. Whether it was a candid snapshot from the Twitter Mirror, a Vine video or just a 140-character burst of text, the stars and others tweeted their experiences to bring you closer to the action.

Viewers also had the chance to vote within a Tweet for which stunts the “Movie Awards Rebel Correspondents” performed throughout the telecast, whether it was a tricky gymnastics move or giving a “mom shoutout”.

Until next time!

*Editor's note: As of November 2017, Twitter has increased the character count of Tweets in certain languages to make it easier to share what’s happening.
