#SOTU visualized: see how the nation reacted on Twitter

When the President delivered his State of the Union (#SOTU) address last night, the nation reacted instantly on Twitter. This data visualization organizes those real-time Tweets state-by-state, issue-by-issue, to show which paragraphs of the speech resonated the most, and where the conversations happened.

Built by Twitter data viz scientist Nicolas Belmonte, this embeddable graphic links every paragraph of President Obama’s #SOTU address and the Republican response from Senator Joni Ernst (@SenJoniErnst) with the millions of Tweets sent during each of their deliveries.

Click on any time segment in the chart to see which part of the speech it corresponds to, or scroll through the transcript to see how reactions shift from state to state.
